The University City

Harvard, America's oldest university, was established in 1636 six years after the city itself was founded. Cambridge is also home of Radcliffe College (now part of Harvard University), Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lesley University, and Cambridge College. Nearly one-fourth of its residents are students -- 20,000 arrive here annually -- and over one in six of all jobs in the city is in these institutions.
The city of Cambridge has 12 elementary schools and 1 high school serving approximately 6,750 students.
